HARRISBURG – Rep. Mike Tobash (R-Schuylkill/Dauphin) today announced that he has been appointed to serve on the House Education, Game and Fisheries, Insurance and Liquor Control committees for the 2019-20 legislative session. Tobash was sworn into office for a fifth term in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives on Jan. 1.

“I am extremely pleased to serve as a member of the committees to which I have been assigned, and I am anxious to get to work,” Tobash said. “The committee members’ jobs are very important, as this is the level where bills are closely reviewed, refined and voted upon before they are sent to the full House for consideration.”

The Education Committee works on state issues involving public and private schools, encompassing pre-K through grade 12 basic education, as well as post-secondary education.

“Education is the key to our future economic strength,” Tobash said. “Recognizing that education is perhaps the most important function of state and local government, our role is to look the problems squarely in the face in our search for meaningful long-term solutions, whether it deals with public school finance or making sure our students have a safe learning environment.”

The Game and Fisheries Committee receives and reviews annual performance and status reports from the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. It also approves the setting of license fees that support each commission and addresses all legislation that affects them.

The Insurance Committee helps oversee the Insurance Department and ensure any legislation running through the House that pertains to insurance matters is studied with extreme care. During the upcoming session, the committee will examine legislation that will ensure insurance regulations are fairly enforced while being mindful of the consumer.

The Liquor Control Committee is responsible for issues relating to the administration of alcoholic beverage licenses and the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages.

"Each of these committees addresses issues that are important to the residents of the 125th Legislative District, as well as the communities across the Commonwealth," said Tobash.
