HARRISBURG – Rep. Mike Tobash (R-Dauphin/Schuylkill) announced today that Elizabethville Area Authority was awarded a $1.1 Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) low-interest loan to makes upgrades to the existing pump station.
PENNVEST awarded the loan to pay for two new 50 horsepower variable speed pumps, sized approximately 500 gallons per minute each. The improved pump station would include a new wet well and related equipment, as well as a grinder to handle debris at the pump station.
“This will solve a major problem with the pump station that serves 965 residential customers,” said Tobash. “The system experiences flows in excess of pump station capacity. The overflows discharge directly into a tributary of the Wiconisco Creek. This grant will go a long way to fix this issue. I am pleased that the state is offering financial assistance.”
PENNVEST provides grants and low-interest loans to communities across the Commonwealth for sewer, stormwater and water projects. The projects contribute to improving Pennsylvania’s environment and the health of its people, while also providing opportunities for economic growth and jobs for Pennsylvania workers.
PENNVEST funding comes from a combination of state funds approved by voters, federal grants to PENNVEST from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and recycled loan repayments from previous PENNVEST funding awards. Funds for the projects are disbursed after bills for work are paid and receipts are submitted to PENNVEST.
