Tobash Announces Joint House Hearing Focused on Lessening Government Regulation on Businesses
8/23/2013

HARRISBURG – Rep. Mike Tobash (R-Schuylkill/Berks) will be hosting a joint public hearing of the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee and the Game and Fisheries Committee, on Monday, Aug. 26, at 2 p.m., at the Empire Education Headquarters Auditorium, located at 396 St. Clair Highway, Pottsville.

A current measure to lessen government regulations on business, including coal mining operations and construction companies that work to improve our state’s infrastructure, while working to balance the issue of protecting wild and aquatic life in Pennsylvania, is the focus of this hearing.

“This measure addresses a two-fold issue, and was drafted after concerns related to burdensome regulations on businesses in Pennsylvania were heard,” said Tobash. “On one hand we have to protect wildlife, but on the other hand we cannot allow bureaucracy to get in the way of our ability to improve our infrastructure or destroy our local industries.”

The measure before the committee would require that state agencies provide detailed reasons and scientific proof before they could stop projects. Rep. Jeff Pyle (R-Armstrong/Indiana) is the prime sponsor of House Bill 1576 and has worked closely with Tobash on this and other issues that have negative effects on mining and other industries.

“Simply put, we need to cut through the red tape and cannot let government continually get in the way and hinder projects that will ultimately benefit the Commonwealth,” said Tobash.

For more information on the joint public hearing, or any other state-related issue, contact Tobash’s district office in Schuylkill Haven by calling 570-385-8235.
