Tobash Announces House Committee Appointments for 2015-16
1/22/2015
HARRISBURG – This week, state Rep. Mike Tobash (R-Schuylkill/Dauphin) received his committee assignments for the 2015-16 legislative session of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

“I am extremely pleased to serve as a member of the committees to which I have been assigned, and I am anxious to get to work,” Tobash said. “The committee members jobs are very important, as this is the level where bills are voted on before they are sent to the full House for their consideration.”

Tobash will spend his third term in the state House serving as a member of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Education, Insurance, and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness committees.

• The Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee maintains state legislative involvement in all aspects of rulemaking related to agriculture and rural areas.
• The Education Committee works on state issues involving public and private schools, encompassing pre-K through grade 12 basic education, as well as post-secondary education.
• The Insurance Committee is responsible for issues relating to most lines of insurance coverage regulated by the state.
• The Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee oversees legislation concerning veterans, volunteer firefighters and other first responders, specifically the Pennsylvania National Guard, disaster relief, 9-1-1 emergency dispatch services, and state veterans benefits.

As a new member of the House Education Committee this session, Tobash believes Pennsylvania’s success in education is important to every Pennsylvanian. “This committee focuses on improving the entire system, from teacher concerns to administration and cost, in an effort to benefit every student in the Commonwealth.”

Tobash was also selected to serve as a deputy policy chair for the House Majority Policy Committee during this legislative session. The committee travels across the state, conducting hearings and roundtable discussions about important issues to gather testimony and information from key stakeholders. Tobash will attend these hearings and work with his colleagues in the House Republican Caucus to develop policies to address those issues.

“As a member of the House Majority Policy Committee, I am specifically interested in working with my colleagues to improve our public education system and to stabilize our state’s public pension systems,” Tobash explained. “Pennsylvania is facing more than $50 billion in pension debt, and I believe enacting meaningful reform is the most important legislative issue currently facing our state.”

For information on this or any other legislative topic, please contact Tobash by email at MTobash@pahousegop.com, through his website at www.RepTobash.com, by telephone at 570-385-8235, or through Facebook at www.Facebook.com/RepTobash.
