Renewed Budget Plan Increases Funding for State Education, Includes No New Taxes, Tobash Says
HARRISBURG – In another attempt to complete Pennsylvania’s state budget, Rep. Mike Tobash (R-Schuylkill/Dauphin) voted in favor of House Bill 1801 on Wednesday. The bill funds items cut by Gov. Tom Wolf as part of his Dec. 29 line-item veto.

“Once again, today we voted to fund our schools, crucial agriculture programs such as Penn State Extension and 4-H programs, specialty care programs and prisons,” Tobash said. “I believe the $6 billion in taxpayer dollars that is being paid to the state treasury needs to be released. There’s no need to senselessly withhold it from schools and other state-supported programs.”

The $30 billion budget is about a 3 percent increase through growth and inflation estimates without implementing broad-based tax increases. It provides an increase of more than $200 million to public schools. It is balanced and it gives the governor yet another chance to finish the job, Tobash said.
