Berks County Earns DEP Grants, Tobash Says
HARRISBURG – Rep. Mike Tobash (R-Schuylkill/Berks) today announced the Berks County Solid Waste Authority has been awarded two grants totaling nearly $25,000 from the state Department of Environmental Protection.

The county received a grant of $22,861 to reimburse it for 50 percent of the costs for developing and operating a household hazardous waste collection event at the Exeter Township Municipal Building in April. It received an addition grant of $2,087 for its collection of pharmaceuticals at the same event.

“It is important to ensure hazardous chemicals and prescription drugs do not end up in our landfills and our water supply,” Tobash said. “I commend Berks County for operating this important event to benefit the health and safety of our environment and our citizens.

The grant was awarded under the Pennsylvania Small Business and Household Pollution Prevention Grant Program, created by law in 1996.
