About Mike

Biography for Rep. Mike Tobash
125th Legislative District, Schuylkill/Berks Counties

Mike Tobash was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in November 2010 with the goals of improving job climate by reducing taxes and government burdens on citizens and employers, right sizing government by enacting timely and responsible budgets, and defending our constitutional rights.

In the 2013-14 legislative session, Mike serves on the following House committees: Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Commerce, Insurance, and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness.

During his first term in office, Mike sponsored meaningful legislation supporting the anthracite coal industry and he developed an outstanding working relationship with the state Department of Transportation, Department of Environmental Protection and local educators. Mike has also worked to bring valuable resources back to the region to improve our infrastructure and protect the area through flood mitigation projects.

Mike played an important role in erasing a $4.2 billion budget deficit, restoring proposed cuts to public education, reducing welfare spending, reforming unemployment compensation law, and assisting volunteer organizations in raising money for their community services.

Born and raised in Schuylkill County, he has worked in a family business all of his life and is now an owner of Tobash Insurance Agencies in Hegins, Cressona and Tamaqua.

Mike is very active in the community. He currently serves as an ex-officio member of the Penn State University Schuylkill Advisory Board and as a charter member of the Tri-Valley Lions Club. He is a past advisory board president of the St. Joseph Center for Special Learning, past board president of the Family Service Agency, and former member of the Schuylkill United Way. He is also a member of the National Rifle Association, Valley View Gun Club, Friedensburg Fish and Game Association, and Trout Unlimited.

He is a graduate of Tri-Valley High School and Elizabethtown College, where he earned a degree in business administration management and marketing. Mike and his wife, Amie, reside in Pottsville with their daughters, Lexi and Mikaela.
